SEEDLING PLANTING
How to grow your METAMELBOURNE Herb & Wildflower seedlings.
Once you have finished lighting your candle for the last time & are ready to plant your METAMELBOURNE seedling paper, we suggest following the below guide for optimal blooming.
CLEANING YOUR VESSEL
Once your METAMELBOURNE scented candle is finished with 1cm of un-melted wax remaining, & you wish to clean your vessel of all wax & wicks, we recommend using the below methods:
FREEZING: Place your METAMELBOURNE vessel into the freezer for 2-3 hours, this will allow the remaining wax to shrink. You may then use a stiff object such as butter knife to pry the wax out of the vessel, this method will remove the wicks within the wax.
HEATING: Place your METAMELBOURNE vessel into the oven on a temperature of 50-70 degrees, allow it to sit for 15-20 minutes, until the vessel becomes warmed & wax appears softened. You may then use a stiff object such as a butter knife to push the wick base & remove from the vessel. Use a paper towel to wipe remaining wax from the vessel.
Repeat if necessary, to remove all wax or use hot soapy water for any residue.
Our aluminium wick bases are recyclable; & we ask you dispose consciously.
Please do not place vessels into microwaves to melt wax.

PLANTING PROCESS
SOIL
After cleaning your vessel & removing all wax & wicks;
Fill your METAMELBOURNE Concrete Jar 3/4th with soil.
If using soil, we recommend a new bag of good seed compost.
If keeping your plant potted in the concrete vessel long term, add a handful of pebbles/rocks at the base of the pot 1/4 of the way to allow drainage to occur.
Lay the seed paper label on top of the soil & lightly cover your seedling paper with a layer of soil.
SEEDLING POD
After cleaning your vessel & removing all wax & wicks;
Place seedling pod inside of your vessel.
If keeping your plant potted in the concrete vessel long term, add a handful of pebbles/rocks at the base of the pot 1/4 of the way to allow drainage to occur.
Fill your vessel with lukewarm water, covering the seedling pod; your pod will begin to expand over the next several moments.
Gently tear METAMELBOURNE seedling paper & position in the opening of the seedling pod.
Once pod has entirely expanded & seedling paper is soaked - pour out any excess water.
After seedlings have sprouted over the coming weeks, you may lightly cover remaining space in the vessel with soil.
GROWING
Place your METAMELBOURNE vessel in a bright place, preferably sun-facing however not direct.
Avoid frost.
Water daily – we suggest using a spray bottle to gently mist.
Patiently wait for your seedlings to grow, usually sprouts will begin to surface 7-14 days after planting.
WATERING
As the seedlings grow, keep the soil moist.
Spray soil with water 2-3 times a day. You can just use a regular spray bottle, small watering can, or drizzle water over it from the faucet.
Never overwater or let seedling pod & paper dry out, keeping moist is recommended. If the seeded paper or pod dries out, it may contract slightly & damage delicate sprouting seedlings. Remember, the seeds + sprouts will be delicate so be careful not to pour the water too hard.
SUN & LIGHT EXPOSURE
Seedlings need a lot of light. If you are growing in a window, choose a south-facing exposure. Avoid leaving it at the window overnight to avoid frost. Rotate the pot regularly to keep plants from leaning into the light. If seedlings do not get enough light, they will be weak.
STORAGE
METAMELBOURNE Seedling paper must be kept dry & stored in a cool dark space away from liquid, extreme temperatures, humidity, sunlight & strong light. We expect METAMELBOURNE Seedling paper to have a life of 12 months if stored correctly.
May you continue to burn brightly & bloom.
With love, MM
